HaiZi Project: Study 1

Study 1: A qualitative study on the situation and vulnerability factors of unintentional injuries among children aged 3-12 years in Guizhou Province

Research findings :
◎ The major vulnerability factors of children's unintentional injuries found in all groups of children studied are insufficient family supervision, insufficient time and energy of child caregivers, and unsafe home environment.
◎ The unique vulnerability factor of left-behind children is their lack of parental roles and insufficient family education.
◎ The vulnerability factors of children with disabilities were related to their physical limitations. ◎ Girls are neglected in education and protection due to traditional concept of gender roles and distribution of resources.
◎ Therefore, these children are at higher risk of unintentional injuries.
